Once upon a time...Slingsby Gin
Long ago, the Dutch King William brought a magical elixir from Holland to the city of London. This elixir was called gin and it soon became the City’s most popular spirit.
And that’s the gin part of this story.
Here’s the tonic. In a far away place called Yorkshire, a young explorer by the name of William Slingsby was on a quest of discovery. He roamed the moors and dales until he arrived at a strange little town called Harrogate. Here Slingsby found the Tewit Well and soon realised that this was no ordinary well.
The shimmering spring water inside the well was like no other he’d ever come across - this water had healing powers. Slingsby spread the word and soon people began flocking to the town. Harrogate was transformed into a place of leisure and relaxation, socialising and shopping; Charles Dickens described it as “the queerest place with the strangest people in it, leading the oddest lives of dancing, newspaper reading and dining”.
William Slingsby’s water had brought the town to life. The spirit of Harrogate was born.
This spirit lives on in both the town and the people of Harrogate. To this day, they do things differently and see things differently - just like Slingsby did. In more recent times, a small group of entrepreneurs decided that they too wanted to share the spirit of Harrogate with the rest of the land by creating the perfect gin. Like Slingsby, they explored Harrogate and discovered many wonderful ingredients. They collected botanicals from Rudding Park Garden, the most delicious teas from Taylors of Harrogate and then - with a final masterstroke - added their own magic elixir, the water from the Tewit Well. Together, these ingredients capture the spirit of Harrogate in a bottle.
